General Motors has announced that a new vehicle, The Chevrolet Volt, will hit an unprecedented 230 miles per gallon in city driving. The Volt currently plans to be released late 2010. The Volt is designed to run 40 miles from a single charge and once the battery pack is depleted a small engine is designed to kick in to recharge the battery & the vehicle.
Second & Third Generation Volts are also being planned to help cut down the costs. One challenge GM will face with the volt is the projected sticker price of $40,000 before a possible $7,500 tax credit can be applied. GM also claims they will not be making money on the first generation Volts. GM is certainly heading down the right track after recently coming out of bankruptcy.
